
Theme: Ecosystem Restoration
We are familiar with the pressing issue that is climate change and global warming and part of it arises from human activities. For that reason, such particular days are set aside to try and correct our own errors and on the 5th of June 2021 World Environment Day the restoration of Kiptogot Forest was the day’s agenda where a total of 2,100 trees were planted having been donated to the Forest community by a collective of sponsors and donors. The biggest shareholders of the forest are the CFA who work with the Trans-Nzoia county to ensure smooth management of the Forest.

Mt. Elgon Kiptogot Forest
Kiptogot Forest Occupies an area of 10,243ha in size and is a part of Mt. Elgon Water Tower and it has a tree nursery with over 202,100 indigenous seedlings and over 120,000 exotic tree seedlings managed in collaboration with the CFA. There have been a number of attempts of restoring the ecosystem of forest and this is being achieved given the marvelous appearance of the forest.
Its an ideal location for hiking with its well-defined nature trails complimented by water streams due to the presence of three rivers, Caves and cultural sites ensures a day well spent. The Mt Elgon ecosystem has five separate forest stations proving the diversity of the region. Camping at this forest is magical and the best opportunity to reconnect with friends and then. Kiptogot provides a good environment and location Picnicking, team building, outdoor games and photography. the scenic views on all sides and the hilly appearance is god for taking road trips with occasional stopovers.
Marvin Wamalwa Tribute
This also saw honoring of the Legendary Marvin Wamalwa founder of the Mt. Elgon Jumbo Charge and his passions were evident from the members of Jumbo charge who pride themselves as champions in leading the conservation efforts of Mount Elgon Forest.
His continued efforts of encouraging the protection of this ecosystem though sport saw him win the Community Hero Award at the 2019 Magharibi Michezo Awards. At the forest he was also honered with a 2,000arcre piece being named after him.
